Electrical question 66 f250

Aren't the dash lights supposed to cone on with the lights? Mine only come on when I turn the dome light switch on. Slightly annoying. A second issue after this one is fixed.

Hmm, that doesn't sound right at all. Honestly, I rarely drive my truck at night, so I can't remember if the dash lights come on when you pull on the headlights or also with the park lights? I would try a test for you, but my baby has already been put into storage for the Winter.

Dash lights come on with the lights, they get brighter as you turn the **** counterclockwise until the dome light comes on. You probably have a bad rheostat in the light switch. Check all your fuses first just to make sure. You can get those at about any local parts house I got one from NAPA. Your shop manual explains how to take it out.

The light switch is new. Aftermarket tho who knows. There aren't many fuses to check but I'll do that. Thank you.

Made in China electrical parts!! A new ignition switch I had failed on the second start. I just got 2 Wagner made in China headlights one of them had the lens glued on 15 degrees out of level.
You are probably going to have to take the switch out to check it and the wiring. The dome light is on a separate circuit from the dash lights.

Ugh. Electrical issues are my least favorite to deal with. China parts are generally junk.

The "dimmer" is that coil spring-like wire fastened around the switch. It's pretty easy to check with a multi-meter.

I have a multimeter. Is this something I can check with switch in place?

No, but you can have the switch out in a couple minutes. You might want to disconnect the battery and put some masking tape around the dash nut though...

Once again this forum has given me the direction on where look for a remedy. I eyeballed the light switch and noticed the copper lead wasn't even making contact with the rheostat string. I bent it a bit and now the dash lights come on and dim as they're supposed to. Yea. Thank you all for your advice.

Emergency Flasher

Flasher circuit is a completely stand alone add on. If your turn signals work look at that inline fuse an the flasher.

I have a similar issue with my truck. Turning the **** controls brightness for the dash lights and the dome light together. In other words when I turn the **** all of those lights get bright or dim accordingly. The dome light should not come on until the **** reaches a certain point in the rotation. This is one of my next projects - good information here. Thanks for all posting info!
