If you're towing, the gear ratio will be extremely important, and even more so if you are up-sizing (is that even a word) tires at some point. Most v10's have a common issue with broken manifold studs also.

As Eric said above, all the V-10 EXs came with the Performance Improved (PI) heads, so they all are high flow units. The earlier PI heads had only 4 spark plug threads, which is fine if the plugs are torqued properly and checked every so often. In mid-year '03 the head design was improved to have seven threads for the plugs, makes blowing a blog almost unheard of.

I would consider $10k max for that rig. Assuming everything else is perfect and works.
It may have low miles, but it also may have spent it's lift as a fleet vehicle idling and/or long periods of dormancy.
Sitting kills a vehicle. My 2000 has 92k on her. It sat for 8yrs. I have been repairing/changing items that should not be bad based on the mileage. But time and sitting have done a number. That would be my #1 concern with the $18k X.

FWIW - I was offered $20k for mine last year and turned him down. It is a Limited Ultimate 2002, V10, 4x4, with about 51k on the odo.
Contemplated selling it, but wasn't sure that I would ever be able to find another one as nice, so I passed on his offer and have been happy with my decision. There is no equal and they aren't making any more of them that you can drive off the lot. If Ford did still make them, think you could get one for $18,500?
In the end, Excursions are worth what you (or someone else) is willing to pay for one.

I've always heard this, but never experienced it. We've had some ultra low milage vehicles before and not an issue to be had. Case in point a '99 Explorer that we bought from family friends in November of 2008 with 17,000 miles on it. Many people told me run away from it, all it's going to do is give you problems. It was garaged its whole life, had never seen snow and was like brand new inside and out. It was like getting in a time warp! Bought it and as of today it's at 46,5xx miles with zero issues, zero leaks, Cold A/C and still drives like new. Only things we've done are change the oil, coolant, brake pads and tires.
I've been around a lot of other low mile/ultra low mile cars and trucks and never ran into a basket case because of sitting. I suppose it can happen but i'd rather take one with 50k miles then 150k miles.
IMO if it's as stated and stock in great shape with history I'd day $15-17k is fair.
