It's hot ,I need air

Hello all, I'm new to fte but have been gleening infomation off this site for a long time. I have a problem that I hope I can get some help with. I have a 81 f 100 that had dealer installed air conditioner put in when new. Everything has worked fine until this week. I have determined the fan motor switch has gone bad. Being dealer installed it has 9 flat pins on the back,5 straight up and down on one side and 4 on the other. I have not been able to locate it anywhere so I have come to the only place I know to get help.

Thanks,
scED

Welcome to FTE.
Can you post up a picture of this switch?
Someone may know where to get one.

Another option is to hotwire the blower motor. Then when you turn the air control to any setting it blows like it is on high.

A picture of the switch along with any numbers embossed on it, something like

E0TA 12345 AC

Or any similar identifying markings, and maybe somebody can locate an actual plug-in replacement.

The wiring can be modified and different technology installed, too.

David - I wonder if somebody already swapped in some sort of aftermarket replacement and some weird configuration... that happens sometimes....

scED - Yes; pictures, please.

Does your system look like the schematic/parts breakdown in this link? There are some numbers in there for the switch.

I get a lot of hits for Motorcraft yh-210 in the internet. But it only has 5 terminals on it.

Parts catalog does not list the number of terminals for this switch. Thank you for posting this info.

IMO, since this dealer installed switch (D1RY-19986-A / Motorcraft YH-210) has the wrong number of terminals, the OP's truck has a gypo aka aftermarket A/C installed by an A/C shop.

Plus, the number the OP posted off the original switch (post #6) is not FoMoCo related.

If the origainal part is not available, it shoud not be too dificult to add another switch just to control the Fan. If that is all that is wrong.

Does the AC work other than the fan doesn't come on (or Fan is on low speed)?

the bottom orange, red and yellow wires go to the AC fan and the orange, red and yellow wires on top go to the factory plug for the heater and defroster. I found the paper work for the AC but none of the numbers work.

Take the switch and gently open the metal tabs and pull off the contact board. You should be able to clean the contacts or reveal the problem after you get it apart. Be careful in case there is a spring inside and notice its position. reassemble in reverse. The metal should be soft enough not to break off but don't bend them back to quickly or all the way back ... just enough to get the board off.
