F100 Tank size?

Is there a way to find the size of the original gas tank? Maybe from the VIN?

I'm pretty sure either size side tank will fit but to make things easier I'd like to go back with what it came with.

If I can't verify for sure I'll roll the dice on a Spectra F6A.

TIA

What bed? Tank size info should be in the owner's manual.

VIN won't tell you anything about the fuel tank size.

Is the tank a mid-ship or aft axle?

and a long bed or short bed?

And no you can no t put a long bed mid-ship tank in place of a short bed tank. No room for it.

Thanks for the replies,
the owners manual is gone.
the existing is a side mount, infront of the axle.
IF i remember correctly the '83 F100 only had one bed length and it's the longer of the 'standard' lengths. I'll measure it tonight.

And, as I type that I could probably figure the correct tank by measuring it.

Sorry I was a bit vague there, I meant that I thought that for the regular cab there was only one bed length other than the step side.
Mine is a standard cab so most likely the 8' bed but I'll measure tonight.

I appreciate the help!

1980/83 F100's were only available as Regular Cabs, no Super Cabs were available.

Two wheelbases were available: 117" Flareside & Styleside 6 1/2' short beds, 133" Styleside 8' long bed.

8' Styleside bed (not a bed with steps ) so Spectra F6A should be it.

I sincerely appreciate the help!

Actually, I have a 1982 F100 styleside with an 8' bed and the Spectra F14A was what fit mine. It's installed and worked perfectly. You can get it at Advance Auto Parts, and if you order it online and ship it to a local store, you can use the code 'TRT30' to get 30% off! It's the 16 gallon side mount version.

A 16-gallon tank will fit a long bed truck. But so will (well, so should) a 19-gallon tank. But a 19-gallon tank won't fit a short bed truck.

that's a helluva deal, I already ordered the 19g/straps/pickup just so it should be a drop in (drop up?) install.
Thanks for the tip!

True as I tried to install the spare 19 gal tank on my Flare Side (short bed) truck and was a no go so the 16 went back on.

I think it best you did go with the 19 that the truck came with.
I wanted to go with the 19 for the added miles as my truck only had the 1 16 gal tank.
I said "only" as I am adding the 19 gal rear tank from my parts truck. The Flare Side never came with duel tanks so it will be a custom install.

I know.. I was just mentioning what I had bought that fit. I opted for the 16 gallon as my truck is just a weekend occasional trip to Lowes or joy riding.
