2017 48 Gal Fuel Tank in 2016
#2
Considering the differences in the frames of both years of trucks, and the fact that the '16 has a frame mounted low pressure pump/DFCM combo, and the '17 has the low pressure pump inside the tank, I would doubt they are interchangeable. It would be nice though. There are a few other differences that would also reduce the likelihood of a swap.

You could run a Titan tank and get even more capacity. Direct replacement and holds 65 gallons...

It bothered me a little bit too, but in reality its no big deal...plenty of other things are even lower (shocks, diff, driveshaft, etc). Diesel isn't terribly volatile in the event of a leak happening...

Well, I've had an off-road incident in a gas-powered Land Rover where a fuel tank did rupture due to off-road damage and dumped fuel in the vicinity of the exhaust...so I always consider that. But fuel range is important. I hated the 26 gallon tank in my 2016 diesel. Love the 48. Wouldn't have minded even more.

The Titan tanks do hang a little bit below. I investigated the 50-gallon tank for my 2016 short bed...it hangs about 1" below the frame IIRC. Titan offers an extra-cost plastic skid plate, which of course makes the whole thing hang a little lower...

Agree with this. The Titan does hang down a little below the frame, but many other features of the underside of the truck would be damaged or ripped off before you would damage the Titan tank from ground contact. I would much rather have the fuel volume and worry about my driving and the lines I am picking on the trail versus worrying about when I will run out if fuel.

Transfer flow has some other tank options as well. I have the in the bed 98 gal tank that automatically transfers the fuel and it works great. It is about the size of a regular tool box in the front of the bed. On the highway I can go about 16 to 1800 miles between fillups and in the city with my regular running I get about 1500 miles or two weeks between fillups. 136 gals of fuel is a good bit of weight though, not for everyone.

I put in a 33gal RDS tank so it would fit under my bed cover. With that I am at 57 gal total between the two

If you can get it for 811 delivered, sounds like a bargain to me. I found a new one for my CCLB on eBay that was being sold by a surplus company if cost me $1200 shipped.
