NEW TSB VIBRATION OF HOPPING

Hello, Not sure if this has been posted;

TSB 16-0087 MAY 25 2016

2011 to 2016, with 8ft box and factory hitch may exhibit a vibration or
hopping at 42-70 MPH OR 68-112KM.

Repair.. check on drivers side of the hitch to frame mount, should have
cage damper..if not install one under warranty.

Check my 2016 and no damper, I will have my dealer order one.

my damper has some seperation between the outer and inner assemply...so just becuase its there...does not mean its working...so since I am out of warranty I need to do an upgrade and put in two of these dampers since obviously 1 damper on one side is not enough. and yes...she will hop.

thanks for posting the TB info

So my '12 F250 developed this annoying issue after driving to Colorado. I thought at first the roads really suck here, but not the case. You can actually see the hop in the truck when following it down the highway. I only get it at speeds higher than 45.

Only the 8' box with the factory receiver. Does not apply to the 6' box.

I assume this hopping will only surface when you are towing something off of the factory receiver hitch?

No, it does not apply to towing only. Below are photos of the actual TSB.

No, the death wobble is in the steering (front tires) usually caused by hitting a bump where the front wheels shake back and forth and the driver has to slow down to less than 45mph to get the steering wheel to stop shaking. Generally, the issue causing this is a bad track bar ball joint which cannot be tested with the normal "grab the wheel and move back and forth" method. Ford stupidly changed this in the 2011+ models from a bushing to a ball joint. The bushing would last 200k+ miles but the ball joint only lasts 30k miles or so before needing changed. Other suggested fixes for death wobble include installing brackets that allow you to adjust the caster angle.

The TSB in this thread refers to a vibration at certain speeds (especially 45mph and above) which appears to have no remedy other than installation of vibration dampeners (rubber blocks that absorb the vibration).

The parts catalog might say 2008-2010 but the TSB says to install on 2011-2016 for the issue identified in the TSB. Therefore, the parts catalog might not show it applicable to the 2011-2016 as a normal replaceable part.
