Not too long ago, I replaced my starter with a gear reduction starter from Autozone. I was a little skeptical, but with my battery drain issues and the starter being a potential suspect, I bought it. It came with a lifetime warranty and now my truck starts 6.4 fast 
I thought about DB electric and even ebay, but Autozone is just about anywhere I go and the thought of not having to pay for one if it fails really appeals to me.

My mistake, it is not the F4 part number that is the same as the 6.0, but for some reason, 2C3Z-11002-AA cross refereneces with Alliant power starters for a 6.0.
Hey Ed, is there a particular reason why the F4 starter is listed for pre 01 trucks? Some sort of design change or something (3 hole to 2)?

1C3Z11002AARM original part number replaced to the 2C3Z11002AARM which is replace to 2C3Z11002AA
I listed the detail info from the original starter 1C3Z11002AARM so you can see the catalog info provided from Ford.
I can't speak for why Alliant crosses over to the 2C3Z-AA

I'm not sure if Ford modified them for this, but I've read that the Ford gear reduction starter won't fit on a 99-01 truck unless it originally had a gear reduction starter. The one I bought from autozone bolted right up and was considerably easier to work with than the old starter. I spent more time removing the old starter than installing the new one...

I don't know... some of those starters have an adapter that goes with them to work. Was it just an open bell-housing when you pulled the starter off, or was there a flange? If I'm right, you just use two of the three holes to get it off... was there three holes in the starter you took off?

I've always had really good luck with Bosch rebuilts.
But I think you'll do best with Ed's OEM BABY starters.
My '99 still has the original starter in it and it works fine.

I snap a pic for you, but I safely tell you it was a long, heavy sucker that was difficult to remove since the third bolt was way out of the way. The gear-reduction was considerably lighter, smaller, and used two holes which made things easier.

More words of advice: Use some degreaser or brake cleaner before you decide to tackle this...my truck had some bad road grime and oil below it. My hands were black as hell for almost 3 days...
