where is the tach sensor located

infront of IP in the oil fill housing.

Is there a way to test this sensor to be sure it is the problem

The most common inducation of a problem is bare wires where they enter the sensor.

The insulation shrinks back from the heat and oil, then water gets inside to the coils and starts corrosion.
