Rear window
1973-1981 (some 1982 possibly due to dealer kits) have the aluminum sliders, with brushed aluminum frame. Seal (slider only for 1980-1981, slider and fixed glass for 1973-1979): D3TZ-1042084-A
1982+ has the black frame, double width channel. Seal/ slider only: D2TZ-1042084-A
1980-1996/1997 rear window seal without insert/ fixed glass only: E0TZ-1042084-A
1980-1996/1997 rear window seal with inserts / fixed glass only: E0TZ-1042084-B
===================
The rear window of the 1973-1979 has thicker glass than the 1980-1996/1997 counterparts so they have different seals to match the glass thickness. as example:
1973-1979 rear window/ without insert / fixed glass or slider / D3TZ-1042084-A
1973-1976 with wide chrome inserts / Fixed Glass only / D3TZ-1042084-C
1977-1979 with narrow inserts / fixed glass only / D7TZ-1042084-A
=============================
What makes it more confusing is Ford discontinued all the seals and glass for the rear windows for the 1973-1979 and used the 1980-1996/1997 rear window glass as service part replacements.
So if you ever changed the rear window or seal out of your truck and found the rear seal doesn't fit exactly right, this is why.
I have a question while were on the topic of these windows.Is the window glass on my rear window the same size as that of a 94-96?I'm inclined to believe the pieces are smaller on my truck because of the aluminum frame.But i'm not sure.
However a 1982-1996/1997 slider window will work a treat. Just need a new seal with the new window. E2TZ-1042084-A
You can also rebuild your old window, (preferable if going for true restoration) but the seals are hard to come by. There was a thread in the 1973-1979 section, on replacing all the window seals in the 1973-1981 slider window. All the seals are obsolete, but can still be gotten through the parts locator system when the original thread was typed. Numberdummy may have more info on that if you are looking to rebuild the old one.
P.S. your seals are worn out, why the window won't work right.
