I've read a few posts now, and it seems like everyone has their own personal preferences, but mostly Fram seems to be a bad taste in almost everyone's mouth.
I have used nothing but Fram filters for years with no problems. What is the problem that I haven't seen with Fram yet? Is there a problem I don't know about? Please inform me.
Man I've been screwing up my engine for years longer than i could've known... dang i needed this about 8 years ago when I started driving... dang.
I appreciate the help, and boy was it ever... I now need to figure out what products to use (I remain highly loyal to one brand until I'm shown that it's actually bad) Any suggestions for all my filter needs? I mean I can understand K&N, but I really don't have the money to splurge onto them... i am hoping that motorcraft is one of those good, but easy on the wallet fix all problems.
go with a wix . best out there . although my last oil fiter i put on my 598 bbc was a hp6 by fram . they say they flow better , but have worse filtration . il be going back to wix racing in the spring !!
From what I read, the Mobil 1 filter or Purolator pure one is the way to go, if you can stand the cost. And its not much spread out over how ever often you replace the filter.
So if you use good oil, whats $20. to $30. more a year (15K Miles) for the best filters. jmo

There is really no problem with the Frams. Much like blowing spark plugs have left a bad taste for some people who keep spreading the idea around even after Ford fixed the problem...
If you open up a regular orange Fram, it has paper end-caps on the filter media that are glued in place. Of course, the pressure on the OUTSIDE of the filter media keeps the paper end-caps in place, but it's one of those things people like to pick on.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The V10 specs a Motorcraft FL-820S - the "S" stands for silicone anti-drainback valve (do not use a plain FL-820).
The orange Fram doesn't have a silicone anti-drainback valve, so it should not be used on a V10 anyway (and I'm assuming most Ford modulars, although my '96-tbird said plain FL-820 in the owner's manual).
Use the TG2 or XG2 Fram filter instead. They are much heavier construction than the plain orange filter.
But I'm still with you, I've used Frams on everything for 25 years, and never had an oil-related failure.
One example I keep using, my brother-in-law owns a marine wholesale parts supplier here on Long Island. He's sold 100K's of oil filters, most of them Fram. He has NEVER EVER gotten a warranty claim on a Fram. All the rest of the brands he carries, he gets plenty of them every year. Go figure.
** Disclaimer, I just talked to him yesterday about this very thing. He recently had a bad run of HP Fram filters that weren't crimped correctly. But they were never installed, the problem was obvious before you even put it on the engine.
Thanks for all the help guys. It's good to hear from all sorts of people with all their opinions. I appreciate the homework / research you guys have done.
Matt, this is one of those things that gets out of hand sometimes, every time I go to read the responses in this thread, I find myself shuddering before I open the thread

None for all the years I have been using them (I am not going to say how old I am though ). I use them on my Civic with 161K but use Motorcraft on my V10.
Note Art's post that you need to use the ones with the silicone valve.
I put Fram air filters on other vehicles that don't have an aftermarket washable filter and they work fine. I have been using all MC oil filters on my vehicles FL-820s and Fl-1a because for the $$$ you can't get better filters.
I had 3 of them in a row spring a hole in the canister part on my moms 1989 Thunderbird. All of the filters had less than 1000 miles on them. I'm done with them and now only use Motorcraft brand filters.

thats how i am with my truck and stang... my truck gets fram... and my stang gets motorcraft... now if my truck was a ford itd get motorcraft too... but personally im not against using fram.. i find them a better alternative than them supertech ones... if more places around here carried a/c delco ones id be using them on the truck but less and less people are carrying them it seems...
I appreciate all the info, I know I'll be replacing the oil in the first 45 days of getting my new truck, so I'm sure that I'll be back on here with references to the owners manual as well as what people use in their vehicles.
