Angry Boy, did I get tricked this Halloween...

I was so happy, had ordered satellite dish from, well, one of the two big providers in the USA. Guy shows up to install it Monday morning around 9:30. He informes me that to get all the local channels I would need two dishes (aimed at different satellites) , and I tell him to just install the main one. So he's on the roof installing this thing in the rain, with me watching. All the equipment almost slides off the roof, but the gutter stops it. After it's put together he runs the cable down the side of the house and proceeds to cut the cable tv cable to use that hole... Once inside he takes forever to decide where to ground the cable at, then has to replace all the existing cable (not heavy enough gauge, he says). Finally, about 4 or so he's ready to hook up the receiver. Hmm, it can't find the signal. To shorten the story a bit, he tries a bunch of stuff, tries a new receiver, calls his supervisor for advice several times, and finally the supervisor and another guy show up around 6. They all three putz around inside checking everything, then go back on the roof (after dark, still raining) and check the dish. Supe berates the installation (bolts not tight enough, didn't aim correctly, etc) but they still can't get it to work. Finally they give up around 8:15 and say they will have to try again the next day. I'd given up long before then and just told them to pack everything up, didn't want it any longer, remove the dish asap. It finally came down today. They were nice enough the rehook the cable tv cable for me. Sometimes I just don't know how good I have it...

theyre all hacks....lol

I moved into a house that was wired for dish... by wired I mean 2 wires from sat to 6 way box. 4 wires outa that to different rooms, run down the halls accross doorways....

I have since removed ALL THAT CRAP and am wireing each room for regular cable... no crap running accross the roof down the hall etc...

I have never been impressed with the installs that the satelite companys do. They are almost always shotty, and substandard. Not to mention, they look like crap.

I have Direct Tv and I stood over the kit that installed mine.

I had the Coax wall plugs and made him put them in instead of drilling thru the wall and siliconing.

I am very happy with mine and I wouldn't have cable as long as I could get SAT

Sounds like you got someone that is a fly byenite installer.I got direct tv and the guy did a great job no shortcuts nicer job then the cable guy did and it didn't take him long.I have only one dish and get local channels to but the house across from us has two dishes pointing in different directions don't know what thats about there from Egypt maybe picking up a signal from their homeland?IT's been three yrs and works great would never go back to cable.Sorry for your bad experience did you call to complain to the corporate office maybe they would drop the installation charge and send out a more experieced technician.

It's like the saying goes jeff, you want something done right, ya have to do it yourself! Sucks though cause most companies offer a free install, and they should back it up with quality work.

My direct tv installer did a great job installing our sat. Everything is very clean and you cannot see the dish from the front.

The good news what that it was a free install (and removal). And the guys didn't complain any when I told them to pack it up. I asked the initial installer and he said he had been on the job two weeks, first time doing a job on his own. Seems to me the training program needs work. I've decide to stick with simple, functional cable for a while longer...
