I got my soon to be installed rear leaf springs off an F250 with spring code CCCC and it was leaf springs front and rear. Did some internet searching on that and could not find much info. Looks like another Ford oddity perhaps?
Jason, the WB stands for Wheel Base which is as shown below it 137". Second in from the rift on that same line is SPR and below that are your spring codes, C code front leaves (like all V-10 EXs) and G code rear leaves ( like all EXs). Mike's confusion on the coils is due to him having front coils on his mind (because he just wrote the definitive how to on that awesome mod!) and the fact that Ford used many of the same letter codes for both leaves and coils and even some front vs rear leaves, like the 5.4's front B codes.
Here is a cheatsheet I put together on the various front leaf swaps for EXs, all of the info comes from past posts here on FTE.
The following only applies to 4X4 EXs, the 2X4 rigs have coil springs up front. All EXs came from Ford with G code rear springs, the V-8 EXs all came with B (front B code is much different than rear B code, confused yet?) 4100lb, all V-10 EXs came with C code fronts at 4300lb and all PSD EXs had D codes at 4700lbs.
All the other codes discussed come from SuperDuty trucks (they came with springs that don't suck from Ford.)
Spring........Capacity.....Rate lbs/".....Max travel.....V-10 change.....PSD change
B (V-8)......4100lbs.......330 lb/".........5.02"...........-0.25".............-0.66"
C (V-10)....4300lbs.......350 lb/".........5.01".............0.00"............-0.37"
D (PSD).....4700lbs.......380 lb/".........5.14"...........+0.33".............0 .00"
S codes.....4000lbs.......370 lb/".........4.34"...........+1.22"............+0 .88"
T codes.....4400lbs.......390 lb/".........4.63"...........+1.42"............+1 .11"
U codes.....4800lbs.......410 lb/".........4.89"...........+1.60"............+1 .32"
V codes.....5200lbs.......430 lb/".........5.13"...........+1.77'............+1 .50"
W codes....5600lbs.......450 lb/".........5.34"...........+2.77'............+2 .52"
X codes.....6000lbs.......470 lb/".........5.54"...........+2.90"...........+2. 68"
W codes are from F-450s and X codes are from F-550s and other SD trucks with snow plow prep.
The above spring info has been gathered from posts here on FTE by "monsta" and "bruce1954".
The biggest problem, in my opinion, with the G codes: they are single spring rate all the way through the spring travel. Pirate4x4 has written about this a few times here in the forum.
With the trucks, you get a DUAL SPRING RATE, which is vastly different in how it rides and responds. This is why we all get such big smiles on our faces when we go to a modded B code, C code or ATS spring. It eliminates the "driving on a water bed" feeling the SINGLE SPRING RATE of the G code gives you.
Thanks Tom! I was confused, because Stewart’s thread in the tech folder only listed T-X front and A-C rear codes.
So what is the capacity of the G codes?
If you're talking about the spreadsheet in the tech folder created by Bruce1954 back in '05/'06/'07 (brain not remembering clearly now when he first made it) that was a long time ago and that was basically THE guide all Ex owners followed back then, when this suspension mod was just becoming known and common. It was not all inclusive of all the springs that were on or available to the Ex.
