Just got home from 1,100 miles in 5 days with two kids (1 and 7), two dogs, and 30 ft trailer. 100+ degree weather and at least 4 major mountain ranges.
So I did not go with RiffRaff boot. But I did go with the Dorman 904-400 due to the immediate need and availability. I think the construction is way better than the Ford. It has thick construction with visible internal reinforcement. Plus this came with a split ring that goes in the groove of the hotside intercooler pipe and should eliminate any possibility of it slipping off. I did NOT use the supplied clamps but instead reused the Ford ones because the new Dormans do not have the slipper foot on them for even torquing.
Got a hundred + miles pushing the boost and no issues. Time will tell.
Just looked at it and said maybe later.
But I did put the charger on it the other
day. The batteries are acting better after
the iD10T at the tow place left the parking
lights on and the key on. Dumb asses is all I can say.
My Ford Dealer was actually able to find a Brand New transmission harness for me. It took some digging but it came direct from the transmission part warehouse in Livonia, Michigan (location of Ford's transmission plant iirc).
Oddly enough, it looks like they put this harness in with the body off the frame, so it'll take some finagling to make sure it's secure and reinforced.
Regardless, it should solve the electrical problem the trans shop admittedly made worse with their lackadaisical diagnostic procedures.
Pops was on the phone with FICMrepair today, he has a new FICM coming in with Atlas 40 loaded, going to be supported by new batteries, LN230, wiring, and some odds and ends
Wife lost the belt in the Jeep today. Long story short it needed a water pump in December and I didn't do the belt then because the NAPA belt I bought with the pump and hoses came up an inch short trying to reinstall. Ya'll know how it goes with getting busy...... eight months flashed by and the belt bit me right in the ***.
Bought THREE belts from O'Reilly's today, the recommended size and the next two increments up. Gates belts this time, OEM size was a bit tight to pop over the alternator pulley but it went so I didn't use a longer one. Napa guy was as confused as I was that their belt, which is nominally the same size as the Gates, was short, but this time I had the old (and partially shredded) belt to compare to. Sure enough, it was a solid inch short. Correctly marked part number on the Napa belt, matched the sleeve, matched the computer, just wasn't long enough.
