VIN Code Help

Hi Guys:
I'm resto-rodding my 1953 Mercury.
Can someone tell me what the codes are for this model year for Red Paint, V8 Automatic, M100?
Appreciate any help or direction to a website where I can research myself.

Are you missing your vin plate?? I have an automatic in my 54 F100. If you need the casting numbers from it, Ill take a look and get back to you - the vin plate will only state "auto" and no further information. As for the red paint - if its that same as Ford, then it is "Vermillion" (code N for 1953) and the mix chart for Dupont is 55141 - for Ditzler it is 70358.

BTW, My VIN Plate indicates that the codes were:

Trim 14
Paint 97
Trans 3-std
axle ratio 3.92

I'd like to have them read for the set up I have now, AOD, paint N, Trim ? what are these codes?

According to my Ford /Mercury 1953 parts manual the trim 14 is Red vinyl interior the Paint code 97 does not show on the list> the other is self explanatory (trans and diff)
The paint codes #"S listed is 20,22,37,38,40,43.

Do you know what the other trim options were, and what code applies for each?
Do you know what the paint codes you listed represent?

If I can send you a scan of my VIN I will. I tdefinitely has the colour code as 97.

code 38 superior blue metallic
code 40 glenwood gray
code 43 tahiti tan
trim 12 tan genuine leather
13 two tone vinyl (deluxe)
14 red vinyl (standard)
That was for Mercury trucks manufactured in Windsor Ontario, the same book lists Ford colors as A, B.C, d, G, N, R, P, ss,
It is a FORD / MERCURY parts book Printed MAY 1953
