Hey guys! As the title states I think purchase a 1986 ford bronco xlt v8 4x4 with 173k miles on the engine. The owner is asking 1,650. It has 4 main rusty areas around the body about the size of a baseball.. or so and the tires are all different sizes and brand. The paint is still good (brown and tan). The interior is in great condition has a radio and no a/c. It also needs a new battery and power steering pump. By the way I live in Texas. Do you think the truck is worth the price?
If the truck is solid, that's not a bad price. It's not great, but it's not bad.
Just be sure there's not more rust than that, because that's the tough stuff to deal with.
Check down in the tailgate, around the wheel wells, the top rear corners of the rain gutter above the doors, etc.
If you do go for it, definitely change out the tires. Different sizes can cause some issues if you put it into four wheel drive. If they're in decent shape, you can always sell them off as spares.

Yeah will do! I took a family member (knows a bit about vehicles) down with me to go see it and they don't think that it'll be a great invest. I believe so because people over here are selling their broncos for 2000 - 7000 and some in bad condition. (Wires hanging out, paints burnt, interior dirty)
patching up rust shouldnt be too much and getting another power steering pump should be about 80~, batterys are 100 new so... I'd say if I were invest another 5 or 6 hundred I think it'll be a good truck!!
Yeah, it's really not a bad price. However, make sure everything else is good, or you'll have some work ahead of you. Suspension, bushings, wheel bearings, etc. There's more to a good vehicle than an engine. And honestly, I'd take a solid truck with a worn out engine, than a solid engine with a worn out truck.
Either way, unless you can tell they're brand spanking new, I'd put new brakes on it front and rear first thing. Even if it stops okay, pads can literally rip off on old brakes. I've had it happen. And while you have the fronts off, put new wheel bearings on it. You'll be glad you did.

Alright. Thanks for the tips and tricks. Hopefully it all works and I'll be able to start posting and what not. If not then back to the search it is!!

Here are some of the pictures that I took. I should've taken more. Maybe next time. I get jittery sometimes when I go check out a truck and forget to take pictures.
As stated, its not a bad price, but I'd try haggling some. Personally I'd be trying to get closer to 1k myself
When I went to out check out the truck 2 weeks ago I asked him what is the lowest price that he'd take. He said that he purchased the truck a year ago and hasn't used it since and that he payed 1,600 for it and that he wouldn't want to go lower than that. I could ask again...
I've had good luck through the years by having the amount I'm willing to pay in nice clean $100 bills in my pocket. When all the discussion is done, pull out your hundies and say its all you've got. Be willing to walk away and not chase the dragon , so to speak . The sight of hundies in hand will sway a fair amount of folks.
Hey guys im back!! I went to go get more pictures of the truck and got more information about it. Its a Three Speed Automatic and has a 5.0L V8 OHV 16V FI Engine. The water pump and power steering pump are not working/leaking and I just found out the it is a salvage title!! I asked the owner and he said that the previous owner got in a little collision so the front right of the truck is a little caved in. Its hard to tell. It checked the VIN within the database and it shows that stating (Minimal Damage), however i dont see it in the database being marked down as a salvage title but Rebuilt Title!! The owner also told me that the first owner lost the title and got a new one but it was a brown title. He says that the truck is clean though and it looks like it. No rust under the body just the three areas i mentioned. body looks straight and interior looks clean. Rotors look a bit rusty i will be posting the pictures very soon. Please help me! I need all of your opinions! is it still worth it?
All 4 tires dry rotted. Looks like mud packed on top of frame rails. That truck has been rode hard and put up wet. Priced about $650 too much. Offer $1000 IF it cranks and runs and tranny shifts, but dont drive too fast on those tires.
