I'm half way through 'The Fleet at Flood Tide' subtitled 'America at total war in the Pacific 1944-1945' by James D. Hornfischer. He describes the early use of napalm made from aviation gas, diesel and cosmoline to make it sticky. Dropped in auxillary fuel tanks from thunderbolts on Saipan, Guam and Tinian. The brass liked it so much they ordered up a batch of 85OO gallons. Thunderbolts were the first US planes to use the newly acquired Alito Field on Saipan. Last month I read 'Ship of Ghosts' by same author. Both excellent. Oh, and I love the photo of the two trucks and a tank.

I was reading about the history of PCV the other day. A Wiki article claims it was invented for pollution control in the early 1960s. Supposedly though, Ford used a type of PCV on some of their military gasoline engines during World War II, but I seriously doubt pollution/emissions were a concern at that point. Was this part of a river fording kit? That's the only thing I can think of.
