The title pretty much says it all. I'm just curious if I could swap my JW trans into another 7.3 truck if I were so inclined, 99-03? Thanks.

Yes, assuming both are 4x4 or both are not 4x4.

Ah, very good to know Mark, thanks. Is there something that can be changed out if I want to swap mine to a 2wd?

IIRC, it's the tailshaft that's different, where the 4x4 mounts to the transfer case.

To change from a 4x4 to a 4x2, or vice-versa, you have to completely disassemble the transmission to change the output shaft.

The earlier ones had ON/OFF TCC. They went to a PWM(pulse width modulation) for variable torque converter lockup in 2000-2001ish. Dont know exactly when. Anyway, this may require a PCM swap. Does anyone know?

TransGo makes a lockup valve to convert the PMW to On-Off. No PCM change necessary. Just an internal mod to the pump. TransGo | E4OD/4R100: 4R100-LU
The PMW was added, at the start of production in '99, to the V-10 and diesel models for smoother TCC apply.

Alright, thanks for all the info guys. The reason I am asking is because I am considering purchasing another truck, specifically a DRW F350, but would want to swap my JW Trans into it. So I gather that I need to commit to looking for another 4x4. And as long as I stick with a 99 or later I don't have to worry about the PWM, right? Definitely some things I needed to know, thanks!

Now why would you trade your truck for a DRW?

Unless someone has bunged it up while you are in the dessert, it was a gorgeous Lariat. The DRW won't help you with pulling the 5er.

I have a friend that is looking for a truck exactly like yours now. I hate to tell you this, but I use your truck as the example of the high end.

There are some nice F350 DRW 2x4's in Nashville. Probably enough to buy a new tranny for the F350.

If stay with a late '99-up you will be fine in regard to the PMW. I not sure if the statement from my ATSG manual meant model year or calendar date of production.

Hey Bobby, thanks for the kind words about my truck.

Lord no, nothing has happened to my truck, the wife drives it regularly and even pulls the 5er on trips fairly often.

I am going to start another thread about what I'm considering doing with my truck to get others' opinions on it.

Here's the follow-up thread:

I know exactly when.

All 4R100 transmissions are PWM. All E4OD transmissions are on/off lockup. The first '99 had a 4R100, the E4OD ended with the old body style trucks.
