The earlier ones had ON/OFF TCC. They went to a PWM(pulse width modulation) for variable torque converter lockup in 2000-2001ish. Dont know exactly when. Anyway, this may require a PCM swap. Does anyone know?

TransGo makes a lockup valve to convert the PMW to On-Off. No PCM change necessary. Just an internal mod to the pump. TransGo | E4OD/4R100: 4R100-LU
The PMW was added, at the start of production in '99, to the V-10 and diesel models for smoother TCC apply.
Alright, thanks for all the info guys. The reason I am asking is because I am considering purchasing another truck, specifically a DRW F350, but would want to swap my JW Trans into it. So I gather that I need to commit to looking for another 4x4. And as long as I stick with a 99 or later I don't have to worry about the PWM, right? Definitely some things I needed to know, thanks!

If stay with a late '99-up you will be fine in regard to the PMW. I not sure if the statement from my ATSG manual meant model year or calendar date of production.

All 4R100 transmissions are PWM. All E4OD transmissions are on/off lockup. The first '99 had a 4R100, the E4OD ended with the old body style trucks.
