I have an 89, F250 - 460 also, (I am the original owner). Mine is fuel injected, has 165000 miles on it and the only emmission related item I have ever replaced is the EGR position solonoid. Never experienced any other emmission issues.....except that one smog tech said that my converter was slow to warm up....but after the new EGR sensor and resetting the codes.....I always get code 11 (everything OK / pass). I am however, just installing a complete new rebuilt motor. All of my freeze plugs rusted out, most seals were leaking, and I have always had an oil consumption problem. The machinist said that four pistons had seized oil rings....maybe that was the oil problem.....well soon see.
