Hello all, I was hoping someone has had a similar problem as mine. I have read through other posts of a similar problem on later model trucks, but none as early as mine.
The problem is, that whenever the tank is full and the car is parked on anything but dead flat ground (or the truck is parked on a down slope) gas comes flowing out of the cap. I have tried venting the cap to no avail. I even watched it happening one day and completely removed the cap but the gas kept coming out!
I am guessing that because both F100 trucks I have owned (76 and 82) were painstakingly slow to fill, that there is an inherent problem with the gas tanks in these vehicles. Whether it be an air-lock of some description, or a VERY poor breather system, I am hoping that SOMEONE on here will have the answer so that I can stop losing my expensive gas all over the ground!!
Generally speaking (not sure on the details in these trucks in particular), there's a check valve on the filler tube to prevent gas from flowing back out, and there's a vapor vent line of some sort to prevent pressure from building up. My guess is at least one of those items isn't functioning properly ...
