2008 Ranger , Trany pan volume , and Mercon 5 in Gallons ?
.............I was quoted $200 too flush and replace the fluid and filter in my 2008 Ranger , 2.3 ! So , I've decided too use the paw paw drain flush method ; a quart of Castrol Mercon 5 is $4.95 , and NOT available in gallons . So , UNless Ford sells gallons I suppose I'm stuck with buying in quarts . Looks like I'll need about 3 gallons to accomplish a complete flush . Anybody know where I can get Mercon 5 in gallons ? thanks , rb
I've seen gallon jugs of Super Tech at WallyWorld.
If you have a Motorcraft distributor close by like I do, you can probably do way better on fluid & filter pricing, as my distributor can even beat wallyworld on oil filter prices!!!! So I get my tranny fluid & tranny filter from him.
If you have a fast lube service center close by, bet their bulk pricing on tranny fluid would be worth checking out, but you'd need your own container/s.

Let us know how your tranny service goes.
...............Thanks paw paw ! I'm living in an RV park so no concrete or asphault too work on , so it's a little rocky . I've ordered a set of ramps from northern tool as I'll be servicing a 2003 , 8.1 dually as well as the Ranger . It's a real pain having too jack up a vehicle everytime I need too check something so the ramps are going to be a real time saver for me . , thanks , rb
Get some cardboard sheets to lay on, it's comfortable & will help keep the dust down while you have the pan off. You really don't want to do this on a windy day when it'll blow dirt into the open tranny or pan,so be mindful to keep things as clean as you can.
Don't finish wipe the pan with cloth or paper, use a spray cleaner & turn the pan upside down on a clean piece of cardboard to dry, so it'll stay clean until your ready to install it.
Think "squeeky clean" in Everything you do. when servicing an open tranny!!!!
