Purple Transmission Fluid??????

I changed the transmission fluid and filter using Mark Kovalsky's write up. It went very well. I ended up going thru 22 quarts of fluid. the thing I found odd, as the old fluid was pumping out the clear hose it was purple. VERY purple, like grape juice. It didn't look or smell burnt. Maybe I never noticed before, but I don't think I have ever seen fluid turn purple as it wore. I have seen maroon, and even brown, but never purple. By the time I finished it was pumping out nice new red fluid.

7 quarts came out of the pan, then 5 quarts till bubbles 3 times for the total flush.

I also may have put one quart of DexronIII/Mercon instead of Mercon V in the first 5 quarts. I am not positive. I had DexronIII/Mercon for the transfer case and power steering. When I looked in the trash, one of the bottles was the mercon. It will not hurt anything will it? The truckoriginallyy specified Mercon, plus with the extra 4 quarts flushed thru the system most of it probably either was diluted or pushed out in the last 5 quart flush. Iwouldn'tt imagine that it would be any more mercon than what would be left after a regular service switching to the Mercon V.

Any ideas or thoughts??

I am no expert on tranny fluid so I cant answer any questions with knowledge or expertise but i have heard of/seen Royal Purple Transmission fluid in the stores and would guess that it is purple in color and thats what you drained out. Check out Royal Purple Transmission Fluid for more info.

Note: I am not recommending their use or purchase. Just did a quick google on purple transmission fluid and that link popped up so shared it.

I am pretty sure that it is Royal purple. The Previous owner towed 1970 charger in an enclosed car hauler. I am finding he didn't spare much expense when servicing this truck.

I finally had a chance to drive about 20 miles to check the fluid while warm, The new fluid is so clean its hard to read on the dip stick...... I think I have it right in the middle of the hatching but it was hard to tell. I will have to check it again to be sure.
