oil in the aif filter???
i was just checking some stuff on my truck today and i checked the air filter, it had oil in it and i found a line going from my engine to the bottom of the air filter. there are 2 filters and the little one that filters that line is just caked in oil and there was some oil on the main one. is this normal?

That's the engine breather element. It's replaceable at most autoparts stores. If you feel like it's an excessive amount you may have a bad PCV valve, too. Good idea to replace either at 50K mile intervals. The PCV valve may not be letting gasses out of the crankcase, so they get out through throuh the breather, and end up pushing oil out, too. It's common for some oil to be present in the breather element. Ifyou never change it, you'll think something's gone wrong in the engine.

Vampiro. You are doing a great job of moderating. I see now that his problem is minor and my post could have led him astray or needlessly alarmed him. Thanks for catching that. Still worth a look at the SalemBoys reference as they have a good discussion on the function of the PVC valve.
