Hi guys, this is my first post so if you have answered this question a thousand times I'm sorry. I have always been fond of diesels and i do some hauling every now in then, but nothing really heavy. My question is this. Is the 6.9 diesel a reliable enough engine for me that i would not constantly be working on it. I am looking at the 1983-1986 f-250 model trucks. I am in high school but i can do the basic maintenance and i believe i could change glowplugs and injectors on this truck. It seems like they are relatively easy to work on. Would i be ok buying one with 150,000 plus miles. How long can i expect it to go if properly maintained?Any replies would be much appreciated.
Many consider the 6.9 the best of the IDI's ... Either way, IDI's are known to bypass the half million mile mark ... Are they reliable, that all depends on how good it's been taking care of and will be taken care of.
Will you have to work on it ... They are 24+ years old, yes they will require loving!
Will it leave you stranded, not likely, though possible.
Will it pull a trailer/haul stuff, You could haul your parents house off if you wanted to.
Considering this is an IDI forum, you'll get answers pro IDI ... [edit] WHOOPS Wrong forum [/edit]
The biggest issues are easy and fairly inexpensive to resolve.
