Hey guys. As the title says, my 2001 5.4 Supercrew started running rough today shortly before I got home. It would kinda come and go. When I pulled in the driveway and stopped before putting it into Park, you really feel it. When I shifted into Park, it felt normal. There was an obvious difference in Park and Drive. Its got about 170,000 miles on it and I have had it about a year, with no problems at all. I would appreciate any help.
Could be alot of things. If you're getting a bad skip it's normally a COP.
If they haven't been changed and with the mileage on your truck , that's
what I'd suspect. Especially if the CEL isn't on. Start the engine and remove each connector and listen for a change in rpm. If there is no change then that COP is your culprit. It could be alot of things but that's
where I would start. When a COP is bad the engine really stumbles under load.
I drove it again to feel it out and it is consistently running rough now and the service engine light came on as well. I have a good buddy that is a Ford mechanic so I'm going to take it to him tomorrow and let him check it out. He said he suspected it to be a bad coil.
It turned out being the #8 C.O.P. I went through some heavy rain yesterday prior to it happening and that was the culprit. We changed it real quick and you could see the moisture on the rubber boot.
