02 SuperCrew Only Blows Defrost

Hi...

I see there has been a lot of posts about this but I am unable to find a vacuum diagram that shows what I am looking for.

I got the truck used a several years ago and I see there was a broken vacuum line that was patched with rubber tubing. I am not sure they had it patched correctly. When I noticed the problem with the air only going through the defrost I found the two ends that was patched and a 3rd end that is just open to the air???

In the image below I circled the 3 in red and connected a red line on the two that we patched with rubber tubing. I do not think this is right though since the black in not connected to the black.

Please take a look at the image...I hope it loader correctedly..it asked for a URL.

I appreciate any help anyone can offer

I checked the vacuum at the switch and there is no vacuum coming is with the key on but the engine off. When the engine is running there is vacuum on the black line. I think that there should be a vacuum with the key on engine off though... The vents used to switch without the engine running.. Thoughts anyone???

Where is the motor that genrates the vacuum on the 02 F150 SC?

Thanks for the help anyone can provide...

Hartwa..

vacuum comes from the engine when it is running. normally vacuum loss is at the fire wall in front of the gove box (under the hood)... next spot is inside the passenger fender behind the battery.... last spot is the control lever on the dash where 4-5 different hoses connect on the back

thanks for the help Steve...

Since I have vacuum at the back of the switch the leak must be the switch or one of the lines after the switch. Since none of the panels or floor work seems like the switch is most likely bad...is this common? Does my logic seem right?

I can probably pick one up pretty cheap if it is the switch.

you could be right. it denpends on WHEN you have vacuum. normally at a constant speed, things work. when you stomp on the throttle you loose vacuum and things stop working. if you have vacuum at ilde, but the defroster is always on-- then i agree with you , the switch is bad.

Thanks for the help...

I am going to pick up some vacuum tubing from parts store and by pass the switch to make sure it is the problem.

From the diagram you provided if a go from black (source) to yellow and Green (I think) it should switch to the floor. I will let you know how it works.

BTW...do you know why I cannot post images?

I connected the black tube(source) and the red tube(panel) behind the switch. According to the chart all othe tubes are no vacuum when the panel is on. Nothing happened...the air still blew through the defrost.

I then thought maybe my vaccum is not strong enough so I connected a shop vac (with some modifications) to the red wire. That did not do anything either.

This is frustrating...any ideas to go from here would be great.

Thanks...

Ok... I made a U-Tube manomter with some clear tube and red water in it. I connedted it to the black tube (source) behind the switch. The water climbed at least 24 inches instantly. I had to pull it off so it didn't suck water in. I read that I should have 20" of vacuum... I am sure that I have that.

One question... The diagram in the previous post is for auto climate control. Is manual control that different? Meaning... to get air to blow out the panel do I need to have vacuum just on the red tube like the diagram says? Is the manual control diagram different.

Thanks for the help...
