What are the differences between 3/4 dana 44 and 1/2 dana 44?
I have a 78 F150 I picked up a couple weeks ago and I got it running and driving today. its gonna be a tow vehicle and I plan on using it on smaller trails that my other truck won't fit on. Its got a 351M/c6/205 with the 1/2 ton dana 44 front and 9" rear (obviously).
We have a parts truck, its a 77 low boy F250 with dana44 front with the 8 lug hubs, and a dana 60 full floating rear with 4.10's and a limited slip that doesn't work all that great. I'd like to swap the axles under mine (if I don't end up swapping the frame) for the lower gears, the higher capacity rear end, the 8 lug bolt pattern (I have a nice set of rims I wanna put on it) and the bigger front brakes.
so my question is, if I try to keep the coil springs, whats the differences between the axles? seems to me like I could swap over the bigger brakes and 8 lug hubs and swap out the internals from the 3/4 ton axle over to the 1/2 and then not have to worry about rewelding the hardware for the radius arms and coil springs.
