Finally time to get my window glass ordered and ran into a snag. The VIN (if you can call it one) for my truck calls it a 1936. The junkyard I got it from called it a 1946. It had a two piece windshield before the kids shot it out (hence why I need a new one). According to what I've found 36's had a flat one piece. Anybody out there know if I order glass and seals for, say a 1937 which was a two piece setup, will it work in my truck cab? Did the glass change size from 1937-1949? Are the words "Custom cut window glass" in my future? Thanks for any help. Here's my email address: cdwnmaw@ispdirect.com
A little confused.. Do you know exactly what year your truck is? Maybe post a picture. 40-47 are same, 37-39 same (according to Bob Drake). If 40-47, my glass guy has pattern and can cut and ship reasonably to you (Pittsburgh, PA) or a local shop may have a pattern. We'll all try to help! Just let us know.
Hi
I have a 1940 one ton,, 2 pc flat glass front windshield. I had the old windows as a pattern,
since the glass is flat, you can go to any reputable door and window place, get some custom cut,not much money, I paid about $250 for 5 pcs flat laminated green tint glass for entire truck, custom cut, took 3-4 days.
near as I can tell, a complete new set of rubber and window glass channel, rattle strips, etc is all available from dennis carpenter ,prob about another $250.oo for all the seals. then any auto glass guy in town can do the install job for you, again my est is $200 for whole truck,
I'll try to upload some pics. Problem is all I have is the cab. The nose was ripped off at the junkyard by a forklift so I never saw how the grill, hood or headlights looked. The frame is crushed and gone now, but it had "36IOO5" stamped on it which lead me to believe it was a 1936. These are the windshield measurements= 13 7/8in from top to bottom and 21 3/4 (approx.) from side to side. Hope this helps. Thanks again.
hello all,
i just got my truck yesterday, the guy i bought it from said it was a 45 f100. how can i tell for sure? on the factory tag on the firewall all it said is" KD" stamped in. this is an old farm truck and it has never been registered as far as he knew. it has a straight 6 flatty . any help identifying the correct year would be greatly appreciated. i would like to get it srtaight and send off for a title over in vegas.i have been restoring early harleys for years and i thought i would try something new. looking forward to hearing from some of you, these old trucks are very cool and i am excited about the work ahead.
thanks...i'll post a pic asap
Start your own thread, lots of guys here will help you, but you tagged another thread and not many will see your question..
1ST year for f100 was 1953, 48 was 1st year for F-Series (F-1) 1942-1947 are essentially same except 42 hood has a Ford emblem, after that it was stamped. Not many made 43-45 (war years). Look up some pictures on the site which will help you really ID your truck..
i didn't mean to interrupt any thread discussion, sorry. i have been looking this site over and i can not for the life of me see just how i start a new thread.
i'll keep looking, i did post a pic of the truck in the gallery " new truck". it looks like the same model as yours john. i did see the restoration pics of yours and what a nice truck you have there.
Here is a pic of a 37 1/2 Ton. This year was a one year exclusive, pertaining to the Bed, Grille, and the last year for the Butterfly Hood, plus a few more items. The Glass was the same up to and including 1939, and the Windshields interchanged with the Cars 1937-1939.
The left side of the Windshield Glass was same as the Right side, as was the Door Glass. Althoigh I have not tried it apparently there is little difference in the Fenders and Running Boards, 35-37. I have been told there is but they will apparently interchange.
The last year for the split Ford Truck Windshield was 1947, again the Glass was the same as for Left & Right Windshield, and Door. 1948 was the startup again for the one piece Windshield, and was the same one to 1952, as was the Door Glass. 1953 Was the first year for the curved Windshield for the New Cab design. Hope all this helps you out, I will post a pic of a 1947 in next post.
Here is a pic of a 1947 Pickup. forgot to tell you the Cabs of these Trucks that I spoke about are the same as the bigger Trucks, so there is a lot of room to work with should you find one. Doors are the same as is the windshield.
Thank you 5Star1! I was able to find 1 pic I still had from when we pulled the cab. No hood, ruined fenders. The one fender visible in the pic has a headlight like you pic of the 1937 cab. My buddy that helped me get the cab reminded me there was a 1piece (non-butterfly) hood lying near the truck, probably the one ripped off by the forklift. He only remembered it because he tried to get the FORD emblems off the side of it and they broke. He also thinks it had a funky hood release on it "like a lever with a fingerhole in it" Hope this helps you guys to help me!
Hey, junkman, scan that pic and post it, if you still aren't sure. A pic is worth about 995 words, ya know! BTW, if I'm not mistaken, the early one-piece windshield was flat, unlike the 37-47, which angled from side to side. You should be able to lay a straight edge across and verify whether the frame is straight or not. Actually, it's pretty pronounced; you should be able to just look at it and tell.
Hope this actually came through. My internet sucks. This is how we found it the day we harvested the cab. Hope it helps. Note the headlights and remains of the grill.

Can't link pictures from facebook. Try creating a gallery here then link to the picture. Your internet is fine.. I can see your post, just not the pict!
Terrific, that works!!! The first one is how we found it. Plz note the remains of the grill and the one headlight. Any more help is greatly appreciated. I'll need to be ordering glass soon and I can't afford more than one set.
You can see the divider in the middle, indicating that it is not one piece. If you look at the dash, you can see where the windshield gets farther from the back of the dash in the middle. From the outside you can also see where the angle of each side of the windshield is different, though it is less apparent there.
