I'm going to look at a friends truck. It's a 96 and maybe 150,000 mi.
He says that sometimes they are normal and sometimes he has no
power brakes (they still stop the truck, but he has to push hard)
So I'm going over there cold. Thinking maybe he has powerboost
but not sure. Also thinking the pressure switch.
Anyone have an issue like this ? He had a guy tell him to put in an EGR,
that's when I asked him if he would like me to give him a 2nd opinion.
Thanks in advance.
Sometimes the ac controls can still work and the pump is taking a dump. I learned that from this forum. Mine flat croaked out it was simply dead.
Others the bearing sieze up and crack the mount or burn the belt off.
Internally the hoses to the calipers can crack inside and cause poor braking due to the restriction. Then of course there is the air issue if there was a recent brake job and there was inproper purging. If there was a recent brake job and there was proper purging the hoses chould be cracked inside as mentioned or the caliper could have over heated and bind. If the cliper has a roughed external edge then there is binding and someone ran the breaks off the truck and damaged the caliper by heat and hyper extention combined with radial thrust the cliper is damaged.
So I'm guessing there is no powerboost on the early models? If there is an old type
vac.boost that very well could be it. No brake job that he told me about. Thanks I have an 02
Definitely check the vacuum. I had that same sounding problem and chased my *** and spent too much money. If it is the original pump it probably is not able to recover fast enough.
Just had one the other day that was acting the same way. Put your foot on the brake petal and hold it .If it goes to the floor it could be your master cyl, that's what was wrong with this one the other day. Roy
Thanks to all replys. I had talked to him prev. over the phone and asked if he
had a vac. boost and he said no. He thought the master cyl and booster were all
the master. He did say that something is making a lot of noise. Probably the pump
Is this a dually? If so, it could be a hydo-boost instead of vacuum assist.
The hydro boost is powered from the power steering pump...check the fluid level. Try flushing the system. A re-man unit is around $150. A re-man pump is around $80
no, single rear wheels. yesterday I explained what the booster would look like
and he said he had thought that was all part of the mstr. cyl. So I'm pretty
sure, based on the noise thing and the fact that he has a vac. boost it'll
prob. be the pump.
