I was just talking with one of my co-workers and we started bsing about his truck. It happens to be an 03' 1 Ton Quad Cab long Box 4x4 with the renound CTD engine. I give cummins alot of credit as I beleive they make a heck of a good motor but sometimes I wonder if people acyually think others beleive them when they begin bragging up there truck. I simply asked him If he pulls anything with it or if he just wanted a big cool truck, plain and simple. He begin by saying that his old truck was getting wore out and was down to 10-12mpg (on like a 95 or 96 3/4 ton ext cab long box 4x4 w/360CI, it was like he implied it was better at one time, yeh right) any ways he said he bought this deisel and it has great power and gets great mileage, I didn't even ask him what he was getting he just simply made it part of his bragging that he gets 20mpg in town and 25 mpg on the highway with it. I just about cracked up but after he told me this I decided I had better get back to work and end the conversation before I stick my big foot in my mouth and tell him that I would buy a year worth of deisel for him if his truck would get that, and of course a years worth of gas for me if he lost. It was probably better I didn't say anything at all as I would probably still be over there telling him that its just his perception because he's trying to justify that big expensive truck to pull a two horse, horse trailor, heck I could have done that with my old F150. I 'm done know but I'm still laughing after that comment. I'm not saying theres anything wrong with buying something just because you want it, heck I do that all the time, I'm just on a rant, thats all.
I'm betting he would have told me that it would outpull our bosses 05' F250 6.0L if I would have asked him. Maybe some day when I'm feeling a little fiesty and feel like rubbin salt in a wound I'll see if he would like to have friendly wager that my V10 will walk on the CDI in a little country road drag race (no trailor or load of course). Well, anyway thats my story and I'm stickin to it!!!
the hemi's around here leave me alone lately. i think the word is out to them. leave the 05 v10 fords alone.
It's not just the '05's, they hear "V10" and stay away...
Even before the '05's came out, any Hemi or Dodge got near enough to see the V10 emblem, and they didn't press their luck.
I now have ricers playing with me, usually... I let them get in front, and then ride up on them on the on-ramps The most fun I had one day was pushing my '97 Cougar (30th anniv, full Sport like the t-bird SC's) 4.6L through a clover leaf, I had some Honda sled tailgating me, and I had open road in front of me. Around that turn I went, foot down (RWD is SO nice to power through turns). The Honda hit grass... Oh well...
Sorry to make this a "mines bigger" contest thread ...

Charlie, the 2500/3500 Dodge Ram Hemi owners were leaving V10 Superduties alone before the '05s came out. I've had a few run-on's at stoplights with them and they always backed off when they pull up alongside and see the V10 badge on the fender. The '05s just add insult to injury!
To the original poster-your 6.8L SD will keep up with or out-accelerate a Cummins Ram with a 2-horse trailer anyways. Nothing to be worried about there. Maybe with a real heavy trailer say over 9 or 10K lbs he'd start to have an advantage but even then it wouldn't be embarrasingly bad.
The guy you talked with sounds like most of the diesel owners I know. I mean 75% of them don't even own a trailer and have tonneau covers on the bed! Bought as status symbols because from a $$ perpsective a diesel pickup is top 'o the line in the pickup market!
