installing V springs in the front ONLY?

I have read many helpful threads addressing changing the springs on the excursion and I have decided due to budget to address the front first.

I will be installing new V springs in the front of my 01 Ex and I wanted to know since I am keeping the factory springs in the back what I should do to make sure the Ex doesn't sit front end high.

do I need to install a taller block in the back with the original springs? if so do which block do I go with, a 3.5" tapered block or a 3.5" flat block or no block at all?

to help answer the question all I tow is a very small landscape trailer with Polaris Ranger so nothing too heavy.

can I get away with keeping my stock rear springs?

thank you in advance for you time and help

Yes, you can keep the original springs. The B codes allow a better ride, but only raise the rear about 1/2 inch ovver stock springs. With a 3.5" TAPERED block instead of the original 2 inch block you should be fine.

Your dealer has them, or you can get them from Y2KFordparts. (partsguyEd) He is a regular here and you can ask ihm about it. He knows all about the parts for spring swap issues.

You will be fine with the tapered blocks. I put the 4" tapered on my 03 V10 after installing the v-codes. The rear sat slightly lower. Do not forget to order the longer u-bolts. I am putting X codes on my diesel tomorrow with the 4" block. Went with X codes as I want to compenaste for the weight over the V10.

Depends on where you measure from!

Years ago, when I researched this mod, the blocks were referred to as 3.5" tapered blocks, so that's what I've always called them.

Left side 3.5" tapered block: Part #F81Z-5598-FA
Right side 3.5" tapered block Part #F81Z-5598-GA

I found the chart below in a post by Monsta from 2002! He credits a guy on another forum for putting it together. Great info for those considering this and want to know how much lift they will get out of a front spring swap.

It would be nice if one of these was around for the rear axle as well; maybe for the springs and the blocks.

(For stock Excursions the) Front axle weights used are 4080, & D code springs for the PSD and 3680, & C code springs for the V-10.

Application---Code---Capacity-----Rate----Travel --------- V-10 ----- PSD
------------------------------------------/spring---to Max Cap ----height ----height
------------------------------------------------------------------------ change --- change
Exc V8 --------- B ----- 4100 ----- 330 ----- 5.02 ---------- -0.25 ----- -0.66
Exc V10 ------- C ----- 4300 ----- 350 ----- 5.01 ----------- 0.00 ----- -0.37
Exc PSD ------ D ----- 4700 ----- 380 ----- 5.14 ---------- +0.33 ---- 0.00

F250/350 All springs are computer selected
Also the use of a rear sway bar and what size it is package dependent

Application---Code---Capacity-----Rate------Travel --------- V-10 ----- PSD
--------------------------------------- /spring---to Max Cap ----height ----height

SD-250/350

F550 & 350/ DRW with Snow Plow prep Package
------------------ X-------- 6000 ----- 470 ------ 5.54 ---------- +2.90 --- +2.68

...and somewhere else I found this parts list with part numbers for a V & B code swap (I apologize to whoever wrote this list, I honestly can't remember where I found it):

Here's my order:

</tbody></table>

If you prefer the F-codes, here is the info (they are more expensive):
<table class="MsoNormalTable" style="width: 4.75in; border-collapse: collapse;" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="456"> <tbody><tr style="height: 15.75pt;"> <td style="padding: 0in; height: 15.75pt;"> REAR SPRING F CODE SPRING
</td> <td style="padding: 0in; height: 15.75pt;">
</td> <td style="padding: 0in; height: 15.75pt;"> 6C3Z-5560-F
</td> </tr> </tbody></table>

Hope this helps,
Stew

That's a chart put together by Bruce1954, who posts at TDS.

That chart is in Excel format and i've sent it to many a person over the years. I'm sure Monsta got it from Bruce, just like I did all those years ago.

That chart is where all the height quotes you see posted comes from.
