fan thermo. switch

Hey guys--

This is no big deal, but I am curious as to why I have this problem. Let me explain. I currently have a new radiator with one large puller fan in the e. compartment hooked to an adjustable thermostat switch. I also have a smaller 12'' pusher outside. The pusher was hooked to a switch in the cab which I controlled when/if the temp climbed. But I hooked it up to a themostat switch on the water neck, which is supposed to come on at 180, off at 170, but it does not. The temp from the sending unit at rear of block reads 190, and the pusher switch does not trigger. But then I turn the truck off, after about 3-4 minutes, it kicks on. When I look at the manual temp guage in the cab, it reads 180. Is there varying temps from front to rear?

I guess the old saying of leaving well enough alone really fits here. I will most likely hook it back up to the on/off switch in the cab.

Thanks for your thoughts.

From reading on our forum, I have learned that there are differences front to back, regarding temperatures. Remember, our engines are w-a-y long!

Also coming in to play with your situation is that engines heat up, upon initially shutting down as the residual heat is still present, but the cooling system has been stopped.

It will be cooler at the front where coolant from the radiator enters....and what 1986F150sixsaid about the shutdown. The fans may kick on briefly after shutting the engine off. It could be everything is working perfectly well but if you feel more comfortable with a manual switch use it. The real test will come on a hot, soggy summer day under load.
