To weld or not to weld?

I just ordered a new exhaust system for my 02 and I am struggling with the install? Should I have it done professionally and welded or do it myself? I have heard good arguments both ways but wanted your opinions. thanks for your input in advance. By the way i am going from stock to a 4" system. I would love to tackle it but want your honest input.

Not much to it unless you have to make bends.

Just a quick note. I was questioning your opinions on whether or not to weld. We don't go off road and I am wondering if the clamp system that comes with the kits is sufficient or if I should just take it to a shop? You all know what the shops told me, but i have read alot of posts where members have put them on with clamps and had no problem.

If the pipes fit together well, there's lots of overlap and the hangers are designed right clamps will work reasonably well. Tighten after a couple hundred miles. Check for leaks too.

OTOH, I've never heard of a good weld job leaking or coming loose.

If the pipes fit well, the intermediate solution is to clamp it and tack weld.

I don't know what you have on your rig or who manufactured your system, but I have a turbo-back MBRP that is clamped together. Since it is all SS T-304 I am always wiping down the pipes and have never seen a leak. I wouldn't weld mine together, but I have cat delete and muffler delete pipes and am still playing with what I like best.

The install was irritating and aggravating, but definitely do it yourself. I thought they had hardy, pioneer stock up there in Montana.

I just did a Banks system from the turbo back, all clamp together. After the down pipe it was a breeze. It also sounds much better than the straight pipe I had before.

If you use good clamps then you'll be fine. It gives you the option to do the install yourself plus do changes later without having to have it cut and welded again.

When you say "use good clamps" do you mean i should buy aftermarket clamps or use the clamps that come with the kit? Thanks again.

I used the clamps in my kit, most of which were specialized by incorporating the hangers.
