6.4 Liter New Fuel Filter

I picked up a new fuel filter for our '09 F250 Super Duty (6.4 liter diesel) at O'Reilly Auto Parts - they showed it as a Wix 33950 two part kit. I also went by the Ford dealer to get old kit for the 6 liter I traded in exchanged - they gave me a FD-4609 (8C3Z-9N184-A). When I got them home I found that the water separator (HFCM) filters are different on the end that goes in first (opposite the cap end). I took an image - http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r...m/DSC_0008.jpg - so all can see the problem. Does anyone have any ideas if Ford changed something? I guess I can just take the old one out and stick the matching one back in. The odd thing is that on fordparts.com the illustration exploded view has the Wix variety.

Thanks for any input.

Yes Ford changed the primary fuel filters in order to deal with the injector issue. What happens is that the filter would get clogged and the fuel would look for another way in and go underneath the filter, so the filter wasn't actually be used. Ford put that second O-Ring in there in order to force the fuel to still go through the filter. Thing is, you need to be more **** about upkeep with regard to filters otherwise, you'll run into pump issues and one helluva sucked in filter(I've seen them). Boy I'm glad I don't have to worry about the primary anymore.

i would take it back and get the ford OEM ones, they will be correct in fit and filtration requirements.

The 6.4 is too finacky (spelling?) to take a chance on it working.

Oh crap, I missed the part about the 6.4 filter(need to have my glasses checked I reckon), disregard my earlier post. That was in reference to the new 6.0 filters.

Still good advice:
