I dont hear the turbo whistle...

I do hear the drone from the intake.

I guess I need to get a boost gauge.

Yep, that would be a good start I think. Don't worry, good chance its just a dirty filter.

What he said. Have you done the "Foil delete" mod? That will make the turbo whistle more noticable. With the foil wrap on it, that helps to hide the sound.

Do you notice a loss of power?

How's the power?? Notice any difference there or in your MPGs?

Is your engine sluggish? Or do you still feel the turbo kick in?

I had a similar issue and had a leak in the vacuum line

x2 - Check your air filter and do a visual under the hood for cracked vacuum lines and cracked intercooler boots.

Which vacuum line are you referring to?

Don't mean to jack this thread but my wife's truck seems a little low on power and boost doesn't build up much over 5psi (according to the autometer gauge i have hooked up and I think its a psi or two low). There is also a bell ringing noise heard around 1600-1800 only under load (in gear powerbraking or in that rpm range going down the road). Haven't devoted much time to really looking into the problem because the check engine light never comes on and the truck seems to get along ok.

yes.. I believe I have power problems and my mpg always seem to be a challenge... 14/16 mpg is normal (if I'm towing it will drop to 9/13).

No I dont seem to feel the boost of the turbo unless the engine is just started and cold.

I have recently added the 6637 intake mod and do hear the drone of the air filter.

Which vacuum line are you talking about? do you mean the red line going to the waste gate?

my vacuum leak was in the (self installed) line that goes to my boost gauge, so that will most likely not be your issue, since you said you do not have a boost gauge. If you search the site, you'll probably find other posts on leaking vacuum and/or boost.

The boost gauge and lines are pressurized by the turbo. No vacuum in the system.

No vacuum? My bad. I mean leak then. I had a leak in the line that runs from the tap in the turbo to the boost gauge. Turbo would not spool up. Sealed the leak and all was normal after that!

This is the first thread I could find that was close to the topic I'm concerned with- I have a '99 F-350 4x4 crew cab with a 6-spd man. and lately it's been making a hissing noise under the dash when the throttle is anywhere but at idle or wide open, and the power drops when the noise starts. I've checked the red line running to the wastegate actuator and it seems OK- does this sound like a bad or sticky actuator? What's that switch with the two wires and two little hoses coming out of it?
Thanks for any help with this
