hey guys, i have a 88 ranger with 210,000 miles on it and i ran threw a deep puddle last week and now i have a really high i dle. i have replaced the idle air and the map with no luck. if i pull the vac line off the map that goes to the in take it runs rich and like ****. put it back on and its right up to 2500 rpms. i am at a loss and i think of my self to be very good around any car but im stumped on this one. pleas help
there is no cell at all itch is why im at a lose i just dont know wich way to go with this. i look under the hood for a few hrs yesterday and could not find anything that looked outa place such as a vac line being off or kinked.
Is it 4X4 & if so, does it have the PVH hub lock system????
If so, check the vacuum line to them, as the water could have knocked them loose, or cracked a hose & caused it to leak.
Also check the throttle linkage, from the pedal inside the cab, to the throttle body & throttle plate for trash or deposits on the bore. or throttle plate od.
OK, so no CEL lit & it has manual hubs so damaged vacuum lines to them is eliminated.
What happens when you disconnect the IAC's electrical connector????
You didn't have this problem until you ran through a deep puddle of water....right????
If so, did the high idle begin immediately after that, or some time later????
Was the water high enough that the engine could have ingested some????
yes the problem began right after. i noticed it when i had come to a stop sign at the end of the road. shut it off let it dry out it was fine for about a week. then it started again and has not gone away. i dont know if this helps but it was all salt water i live at the shore and the last noreasten hit hard and flooded all the roads. when i unpluge the iac wont start at all. if i inplug the map it still does it it. if i pull the vac lines off the map it will idle lower but rick as hell. the water was really high top of tire and the air filter was wet but just in one spot i dont think it inhaled enough water to hurt it.
ok when i unplug the iac the truck shuts off. i replacded the tps tonight with no luck. on my way home from work the truck began to buck really bad and was pooring out black smoke. then it would clear up then do it again and it would keep doing this til i got home now the truck starts runs witht eh high idle still but its not pooring out black smoke. at this point i think it may be the fule presser reg. or the ecu am i wrong for thinking this?
