Help with my Baja Bus (2001 Exp. XLT)

I bought this at an auction house last year to drive from home in San Jose, CA to Loreto in Baja Sur. We made two roundtrips so far and are doing another late next month. It had 61K miles when purchased. On our first trip down, after getting into Mexico, I noticed that going up a hill, and the engine is at about 1300 rpm, there is a "shudder" feeling as if the engine is missing or the clutch is slipping or ??? If I accelerate (auto down shift) all is okay. I did not notice this on test driving, driving around home, or even going up the "grapevine" on I5. It continues to happen and I'm thinking about having it fixed. I'm not the type to work on my vehicles and have minimal knowledge of vehicle systems.

Any advice on what might be the problem is appreciated.

Thanks,
Baja Barry

Have you had the transmission fluid changed/flushed?

I had CSAA inspect it and fix everything right after I bought it.
