My pump seems to be working fine, it levels like its supposed to, but it sounds like a briggs and stratten with a hole in the muffler. It sputters and spits each time its engaged but still does its job...it makes you laugh hearing it.
Is there a simple fix I should be looking for to repair this, like maybe an 'O' ring replacement or such? If someone has a breakdown schematic of the pump I could diagnose if from there also.
It could be the mount rubbers are shot or the dryer needs replaced. I replaced my compressor over a year ago for the same reason, but it was also getting slower. I got mine online @ american air suspension
Please tell us your year and if its a rear or 4 corner bag system. Plus if you plan on keeping the system or replacing it with a spring one.
So, to answer ya, the pump is on the passenger side just under the windshield fluid container. Before determining for sure its toast, check the fuse (that's in the Haynes manual) and describe to us how its sits at this time.
Hey Oldtrucknut, I wound up replacing the unit and this one is much quieter than the OEM one. That old pump got worse and hot quickly, so it seemed best to replace it instead of guessing. I also see the new one pumps up quicker, so its possible there was a leak to go along with the noise of the old one.
The guy who sold me the unit tried to get me to convert to a cheaper spring system, but I like my load leveling since I carry about 400-600 lbs of tools and equipment at any given time. I like staying level as opposed to the nose pointing in the air when she's loaded down.
I'm thinking I might have to put some new rubber bushings in mine again since the noise level has increased. But no hurry yet! I like my LLS as well. I was really nice when I was towing my camper but I don't do that anymore. The ride & handling is great too.
