Headrest Installed backward

I have an F-150 supercrew and the rear headrest had been removed to fold down the seat. My daughter re-installed it - backward - and now I can't get it out to install it correctly. Anybody know how to remove this thing?

thanks,
Roguey

Welcome to the site!
Im not familiar specifically with your headrests, but those ive seen that were removable, have two chrome shafts, one is smooth, and the other has a serrated flat side that the push lock(on the seat) locks into.If this is the case here, and the headrests are backwards,Id think that a good strong tug should make it pop out.
Since the serrated rod is on a non-locking side,i would think its just a friction issue.

Gonna admit that I did that once Just get in the back seat facing the bed, tilt the back of the seat to you and grab each side of the head rest and start pulling evenly.

Headrest still stuck....

any more thoughts?

the smooth pole will move but the other pole is somehow stuck in there. I have tried pulling and I have tried a hammer. I don't want to damage the seat or headrest itself, of course, so I don't know what else to try.

Still stuck? Try pulling it up while gently twisting it towards the serrated side. You should'nt be able to really hurt anything just by grabbing it and giving it a good tug.

Beyond that, my only other idea is wedge something between the headrest and the seat and try to pry the headrest up.

DON'T GO CRAZY AND START TUGGING AT THE HEAD REST!

When you are sitting inside the truck, fold the seat down so it aims at a you at about 40 degrees (this is so you can pull the head rest out completely) look at the two plastic inserts that are holding the two headrest poles. On the right (of both head rest) or driver side is where there's a tab to depress to remove the headrest. Ignore that side.

Take a paper clip, bobbi pin anything small enough to fit in the small hole on the left side plastic insert (it'll be pointed towards the driver's side) and push it in. That will allow you to safely and easily remove the head rest without damaging the headrest's ability to slide in and out smoothly, if it's pushed in and the head rest is pulled out at the same time.

Good luck, and hopefully this will help anyone with the same trouble in the future, or even the ones who've posted above.

I did the same thing. The Ford Dealer used an ice pick looking tool - stuck it into that tiny hole on the plastic piece that is attached to the seat (the receiving part that takes the post of the headrest). He pushed the tool into the hole and I pulled the headrest off. I couldn't get a bobbie pin or paperclip to work.

Good luck
