I guess I shortened the wastegate rod a little too much
I hadn't been able to make more than 22-23# of boost and that was only at peak for a brief second. It always felt a little flat getting there too. Jody even commented that it was opening alot. At RRE Roland was nice enough to bring a spare wastegate actuator that he had from a 38R and I got around to putting it on today (mine was broken). I noticed the one he gave me was a bit shorter so I just went ahead and screwed the rod in all the way, put some air to it and hooked it up.
I just got back from a test drive and holy crap this thing pulls like it never has before. Boost comes on quick and stays there. I was at 25 most of the time and hit 26 for a bit too. I'm kind of thinking the wastegate can't even open now, I know I had it the actuator rod extended almost all it would go to get it hooked up. Think that's too much? Or leave it and start saving for a 38R because it'll blow up if I leave it like this? Turbo is stock, just have the ATS ported inlet housing. I do like how it feels....
I didn't hear about the electrical tape mod. ZSounds like a good one though.
You can leave it as it is, just prolonged hight boost levels will destroy the turbo. It all depends on how often you put your foot into it. Here and there I feel that it will be no problem more often yup you'll be doing a turbo replacement in the future.
Seriously though I don't even daily drive the truck, and 95% of the time I'm at half to 3/4 throttle only. I like how it feels there, almost full boost and it pulls. Thanks for the input, I might go back and extend it a couple turns and see what happens. I really should just get that adjustable one from dieselsite, but there's been so much lately; have to give it a break.
I wouldn't mess with it. It's not THAT big of deal. I ran the pizz out of mine, and it never "blew up". In fact, I left mine unhooked the whole time. LOL... Besides, if it does, you'll just have a perfect excuse for that 38r...
This is true, it's easier to convince the wife mod when I can show her broken parts.
But I actually still have the red line hooked up to the actuator, I've just shortened the actuator to where I don't think it can extend any further and it's holding the wastegate closed no matter what. Unless there's something I don't know and it can open on its own somehow.
