tranny slips into nuetral when braked hard

My son owns a 92 Explorer,auto trans and on several occ he has had to brake hard and trans shifted into nuetral... any ideas what may be causing it ?? tks in advance, Tony

tranny slips into nuetral when braked hard

The first thing I would check is the fluid level. I have a leaking pan and whenever it gets low, the same thing happens to me. Hope this helps.
