The transmission always shuttered a little bit in second gear only when under power. But recently it's taken to some serious shaking in all gears,, 1, 2, 3 and reverse. It only does it under power, when I'm coasting down a hill, nothing. But as soon as I push the gas the whole thing shakes. Anybody know what's going on?
My 94 F-350 does the exact same thing. Bugs the hell out of me when I try to accelerate to pass or anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
TrackStar
Best guess, TC is going. Only reason I say this is mine ('79 C-6) did this for a monthor so then one day it went to 3rd and wouldn't shift anywhere else (in 1 or 2 it wouldn't move although it tried, in D it had 3rd only-and I was told I was lucky at that), did still have some semblance of reverse, not pretty all in all. If you have a good independant shop in your area, might be worth havin' them test drive it.
mine has been shuttering for several months now, but being in college i dont have the money to get it fixed if its something big, so ive just been prayin alot. its shifts really hard sometimes also, would that stem from the same problem? by TC you mean transfer case right? just checkin. im not quite down with all the tranny lingo yet. Thanks for any insight you might have.
actually, it is a 4x4, does that make a difference as to what might be the problem? I think i have the AOD type of tranny, theres a swith on the column shifter to turn off overdrive. would that be an AOD C6 or am i mixing things up?
I need all the help I can get.
Thanks guys.
About two months ago I managed to dent the bottom of the tranny pan and it's leaking. I remove it, patch the hole with JB weld and put it back on, refill with fresh tranny fluid.
I never noticed or changed the tranny filter. Possibly doesn't exist anymore. That might cause the problem for me. Or, less likely, maybe some of my JB weld broke off and is gumming up the tranny.
So, where is the tranny filter located? Would a tranny flush get chunks of stuff out if that's the problem?
Guys, C-6's do not have overdrive...If you have an override switch it's either an AOD which only came behind small blocks or an E4OD.
Your oil filter on the automatics are the first thing you see when you pull the pan off. They are always bolted on and will not "fall off" unless most of the bolts fall out of the valve body, and if THAT happened your tranny would of stopped working long ago.
The shuddering on a C-6 would come from hardened oil seals (usually caused by excessive heat) or improper clearances on the friction/steels.
I'm no expert by any stretch but this is what I've found in the five C-6's i've rebuilt as well as a couple of Turbo 400's. Maybe we have a member who works in a tranny shop for a living and can give some more insight??? Deen
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Feb-02 AT 06:40 PM (EST)]So, it's a possible Torque converter or possibly some internal in the tranny. I wonder if there is a way to check. When you rebuild a tranny is that almost the same as a new tranny? Meaning, if the problem is physically in the tranny and I rebuid it myself (still waiting on a manual) that will fix it? I've found a complete tranny rebuild kit+ new low stall torque converted + manual will cost me $180. That's fine if that fixes it.
What do you guys think? I'm just asking for advice, I won't hold you to it if something goes wrong.
Maybe I should take it to a tranny shop and have them flush it and hope that works. ????????????????
Oh yeah! My problem wasn't the C6. When I pulled the driveshaft to start taking out the tranny I noticed that one of the u-bolts or u-joints was BROKEN along one axis. The whole driveshaft was shifted about an inch from center. This was the cause of my vibrations. Took it to a drivetrain shop, got the driveshaft back in two hours and $70 later. Car drives better than before. So check your driveshaft, I think I shattered it when the car was contorted trying to make a sharp right turn and the 460 put out a little too much torque. Thanks for all the advice everybody. Thats the second time the fix has been cheaper and easier than what I thought. C6 is doing just fine.
