4R70W transmission shifts up and down on its own - why?
I have a 98' Mountaineer and about 400 miles after changing the fluid it started shifting up and down on its own from high gear down and then right back into high.
It feels like its searching for the right gear to stay in.
Would this problem be fixable without pulling the tranny??
4R70W transmission shifts up and down on its own - why?
It could be a failing Transmission Range Sensor (TRS.) It's mounted on the driver's side of the transmission, where the shift cable attaches. As it wears out it tells the computer that you moved the shifter to N, so it shifts the transmission to N!
A new one is just over $100 installed, but it isn't very hard to install yourself, if you are so inclined.
I have a 4r70 that I just installed in my ranger along the engine, all 98 stuff, goes into reverse and drive great just won't shift up now, I am getting p0707 and p0500 codes, trans range sensor low input and veh speed sensor A malfunction,,,any ideas? This engine came out of a Mounty with ABS my ranger only has rear abs could this cause a conflict?
I am getting p0707 and p0500 codes, trans range sensor low input and veh speed sensor
P0707 means either a bad TRS or one of the wires is shorted to ground.
P0500 means that the PCM isn't seeing the input from the vehicle speed sensor that it expects. It could be an incompatibility between the two systems.
