How many cab sizes did they make?
How many cab sizes did they make?
Hey, Guys,
I've been wondering, how many truck cab sizes they made? I assume the 2 ton truck cabs are bigger than the pickups, right? How about the semi trucks of the 30's, 40's and 50's? Were they the same size as the 2 ton truck cabs?
The reason I'm asking is because I've always wanted an old semi tractor but wondered if I could make one out of a later model tractor chassis and an old 2 ton cab?

If you are talking about Fords, they made one cab size. The cabs ar the same whether it is a 1/2 ton pickup or a 3 ton Heavy Duty. It was the size of the frames, the size of the fender openings that made the difference. Ford did not realyl make semi tractors back then. The closest they came was the cab overs (COEs), but that cab is entirely different from the conventional Ford trucks of the time. In '42 Ford followed the SAE standards of 34" ( I believe) width of the frame, so you could possibly mount a cab on a late model tractor frame, although it seems like it might have an odd appearance. So in summary, if it's a conventional Ford truck, they only made the one cab.
Thank you.
I have a 1954 F-6 and, not having a F-1 to compare it to, can't say for certain but it sure looks bigger. (the cab that is) I guess its because the whole truck is so big, with the 20 inch tires and massive frame and such.
There is a 1937 Chevy semi on fleabay at the moment and I'm in love! but being as I already belonged to this Ford forum because of my F-6, this is where I came for answers.
I'll be able to afford one later this summer but now, I can only watch somebody else get it.
But, like I said, I can always build one.
You wouldn't happen to know the weight rating on an old semi would you?
5 ton?
less?
they only had one drive axle back then.
Thanks again.
