Last year, my neighbor kindly replaced the tie rods (inner and outer), ball joints, rebuilt the steering box, etc., on my 1993 Ranger 4x4 XLT. (I helped by handing wrenches, hoilding pieces, etc., so I do have a fairly good knowledge of the assembly.) When I was greasing the ball joints and tie rods, I noticed that the dust boot on the inner tie rod (Spicer) that has the bolt that goes through the other inner tie rod and then thru the pitman arm of the steering box has torn. In other words, the lower dust boot of the inner tie rod. I obviously want to replace it, but I don't know where to just get a dust boot nor how to figure out the size. I called Spicer and they said that they do not sell the dust boot alone. Can anyone guide me as to who to contact to get the correct size boot?
I think the part no. for the two Spicer inner tie rods were: Left Inner Tie Rod No. 4051042 and Right Inner Tie Rod No. 4401079B. (I'm lloking at an old RockAuto invoice)
It's been a while since I've had to buy one, seems as if there is chart on the back of the package. Sorry I can't really remember but don't be afraid to ask the counter people that's what there for, to help. Good luck.
On my 1997 4x4 XLT, the tie rod and steering linkage dust boots/grease boots are all the same. I used Energy Suspension 9.13101G O.E.M. Style Tie Rod End Boots to replace my worn out tie rod and steering linkage dust boots.
