My son has a 2005 F150 SCREW with 88k miles (out of warranty). He has no mods. He has had the vehicle a year (bought it used). I do not know what the previous owner may have had on it. Recently he has had the spark plugs changed and, very recently, the cam phasers / timing chain replaced.
Yesterday he had a CEL come on. Reading the DTC P0430 meaning, it lists the catalyst efficiency low on bank 2 (drivers side). Reading further, it seems to indicate an issue with the Evaporative System.
Specifically, the code print out lists six parameters under the title "Emissions Readiness Monitor". Of these six parameters, the Evap. System is "unchecked".
FYI - I installed two new O2 sensors (one on each bank after the cat) after the CEL first came on. After changing the O2 sensors, I unhooked the battery for a few minutes to clear the codes. He then drove the truck for an hour before the CEL came back on. He told me it came on when he turned on the lights, but I think that was a coincident.
The truck runs great - no miss, no hesitation - just the pesky CEL (which I can't stand)!
Looking for some explanation on what components may be causing the CEL.
unplug the battery for at least 30 minutes...it takes a bit for the ECM to lose the stored stuff.
then go check his gas cap. If the cap isn't on securely, you will get a Evap System CEL. the system does a pressure test of the gas tank, and will pop a CEL if it can't do one

Thanks - will have him check the gas cap and leave the battery unplugged a little longer.

Not sure which one did the truck, but he is good to go now. New gas cap and left the battery disconnected overnight. No more CEL.
Actually....isn't the evap warrantty 5 years or 100,000 miles??? you might still be covered...
I bought the truck used for my son. It had no warranty books or manuals in it. I downloaded some manuals and all I could find was the 8yr/80k warranty. I guess I will do a little more research - THANKS! In the meantime, if anyone knows for sure, I would greatly appreciate confirming this.
