I am selling a 1997 7.3 PSD to a guy that has a 1995 7.3 PSD with a bad motor. Since I am parting out the 97, it is complete. Are there modules, harnesses, etc that would need to come off of the 97 to work in a 95? The buyer and I have both heard that are some differences in the motors etc but not sure what. Thanks for any info
Ron, If I remember correctly and this is just from seeing what other members say that the conversion will need the wiring harness as well as the computer. There may be other considerations as well and rest assured that some of the forum guru's that are familiar with this stuff will be jumping in to lend you a hand. Rog
While I was waiting for some replies, I took a look at the IDMs on the 97 parts truck, and both the 95 & 97 service trucks. Both 97 IDMs are the same # and the 95 is different. Is this a big deal with a different part # IDM? If I give him a 97 IDM with the motor, should I also give him the harness too? Or is the harness the same?
Don't worry about the IDM's a 95 will work on any year 7.3 and vice versa. I dont know much about cali emissions trucks but heard a way to tell is that the fuel pump looks like a spaceship? Read it on one of the forums.
No space ship fuel pump, surfboard rack, or granola under the seat. So, we should be good to go. Just wanted to be sure on the CA since its only one state away! I had heard that all IDMs interchanged but different years had different numbers.

LOL. Now that's funny. Yup the fuel pump has a saucer shape disc on top of it and has split shot injectors on the Cali models. Sounds like you are fine.
As long as he gets the whole engine including water pump and HPOP you will be fine. Those are slightly different but is not an issue as long as they stay with the motor.
