I have a problem with the driver door. The door will not unlock with either the key fob or the manual key. I took the inside panel off and found the rod that will allow unlocking (it has a small yellow plastic part attached). If I lift up on this rod the problem is resolved.
I also found a small broken spring inside the door. I am thinking this is what holds tension on the rod. I am unable to find where it would attach and if it could be done without taking to ford. HELP AS THIS IS MY WIFE'S VEHICLE. Thanks, Gerry
I couldn't find a photo of it but I would say the little spring is an internal part of the latch itself. if you removed the latch you might be able to put it back in place but it came off once it may again. A new latch may be in order if you don't want to repeat this repair.
Since you're a moderator maybe this link won't get blasted away but it seems to confirm my theory. I wouldn't do this repair, instead replace the latch. door latch problem solved - temporarily maybe?? - Ford Explorer Ranger Enthusiasts Serious Explorations
I posted a reply, with a link, which it said has to be reviewed by a mod. I just tried to attach a photo, it won't let me any more. I've attached hundreds of photos. What the heck is going on here?
Thanks for the reply, It looks like there is no easy fix other than total replacement of entire door lock mechanism. Physical problems stop me from doing this myself so I'll take it to a shop. I appreciate the info. GERRY
