Hey guys.Im normally over in the 6.0 forum.Im working on a buddies truck it is a 01 250 4x4.The problem it has is it only seems to have an exhaust leak until the truck warms up.I can see that the small pipe coming off of the left manifold has been leaking. Is this something unusal or normal? Also im sure ford doesnt have a recall for it im sure.Just curious if this is something you 7.3 guys have seen before and if the dealer normaly stocks this pipe. Thanks in advance Ryan.
You are talking about leaks in the up-pipes in back of the turbo. This is common on the 7.3. The best way to fix this is to get a set of Bellowed up-pipes from IH. With this leak, he will loose boost. You can get new donuts for this leak, but it will leak again before long.
Glad to see you halping one of the 7.3 guys. Have him join in with us. We will help him.
"Bellowed" Up-Pipes
like Rick said..IH dealer near you can get these as well...he most likely hears the leak more when cold cause the exhaust back pressure valve (EBPV) is trying to stay closed and the exhaust will take the easiest path.. that would be his weak donut..
The reason that the pipes stop leaking, is because that metal expands when it heats up, and seals up against the donuts, not stopping.. but lessening the leak.
