Hi. I must get rid of this clunk!!
Back in June '07 I had a front end rattle every time I hit a bump in the road along with the occasional loud hollow clunk when hitting a decent sized bump. After much reserarch, that June, I changed the sway bar bushings and put in Energy Suspension bushings, which are supposed to be far superior to the Ford OEM bushings. All my noises went away and the truck rode SOLID.
Now, only a year and a half later, the clunk is back ( no rattle)! My ball joints seem fine, as there is no movement in any direction of the wheels when checking them. I honestly think it's the sway bar bushings again. There is no movement in the links, though there wasn't any the last time either. Could they wear out in that short amount of time? Is the heavier diesel motor contributing to premature wear? Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks........Mike

Reason: more questions
Unbolt the links from the sway bar and wire it up to the frame, then test drive it. That should tell you if it's the links again. The Energys are pretty stout, I wouldn't think they would fail so fast. Did you grease them at time of install?
Could be the bushings on the axle too. i think this is my problem now. But yes, they can go bad that quickly. even the "new" design I've seen fail frequently.
