Comparing the F-250 & New F-150

I have a 2005 F-250, CC, SB, 4X4 I pull a 9,000 lb. 30' TT with.
How will a comparably set up 2009 F-150 compare pulling the trailer.
Same engine but what about the chasis?

should be more than ample to do the job. the truck is rated to tow 11500lbs or so, an '09 F150 with the proper tow packages should tow 9000lbs without problems. the 6sp auto would sure feel different than the 4sp? in your SD... there's a "little" more power in the 5.4 this year, though most will jump on the wagon to say its not enough, i think its plenty to get the job done. good luck.

You'll find that it should handle it fine with a few things done for prep....
1. Get better tires, d or e load range LT tires

2. make sure its equipped with the highest tow package available

3. Make sure you get the right hitch setup (you should already have it if you've been hauling it already)

I just got an 09. I am keeping my 2001 F250 for towing. I normally tow a boat (F250 + boat is 15,300 GVW) and I will say...I tried it with a half ton and I felt OUT OF CONTROL.

Keep your speeds way down, get a brake controller, and a few more gas cards.

Dont get me wrong, I like this truck, but you might be disappointed (not in the Ford, but the half ton variety of trucks for that weight).

You have to keep in mind this truck is much different than a 2003 or older half ton....even much different than a 2008

I understand that, believe me! (I researched this truck pretty hard before purchase)

Still, its a half ton. I was just pointing out that he MAY be disappointed, but of course he may not. Thats a lot of weight to be pulling.

Ford says the '09 will handle the heavy loads. Likewise they have made available optional equipment to make that claim more viable. There's a bunch of us on here that are still a little old fashioned (me included) that say get a heavy duty truck to tow heavy loads. I believe the truck will handle a 9k load, but I'm not willing to test that theory. If I had a 9k TT, I'd be looking to upgrade to a SD with a 6.4L.

IMO, this truck has been built to handle an 11,300 lb load (occaisionally). This truck is meant for the guy who pulls once in a while, it's a daily driver and he's looking for better MPG's than a SD will give.

I'd have to agree with most of what has been posted here.

At 9k lbs, you are pretty close to the limits of a half ton. BUT...my '07, with the stone-age 4 speed tranny will yank my trailer, which loaded weighs over 9k, around at highway speeds without too much fuss.

If it were me, it would depend on how much you tow that trailer. Anything more than once a month would probably merit a 250, but if you only tow it a few times a year, with the proper setup, an F150 should fit the bill nicely.

I don't think you can call them half tons anymore.....really...they are 3/4 to 1.5 ton trucks based off of the numbers..... and a "half ton" today is far more capable than a 3/4 ton of just one generation of trucks ago

I was thinking the exact same thing, these new generation of trucks are far from being a "half ton" truck.

well, ask a dealer to show you a one ton and they will show you a 350.

It is what they are known as.

Good post Tim.

I am not so sure how often I would want to be yanking 9k around with a "half ton" Its like anything, if you operate it at max (or in this case nearly max) capacity the whole time, shes gonna wear out alot faster then normally.

Nice to know if you NEED to, you can though.
